"Solange really likes the hair to be free and natural," says her hairstylist Vernon Francois. "A lot of women are inspired by the freedom that she creates with her hairstyles allowing her hair to be un-uniform, which I love."

"Some days we want it long, wavy and messy," he adds.

"Other days we want it voluminously teased. It’s very liberating to see her embrace her hair’s movement and texture.”

"I find this hairstyle beautiful and spectacular because it’s a side bun but at the same time, we embraced her hair’s texture creating more of a chunky bun," says Francois, who created the look.

Short, natural strands are spiked up and gelled in place; sides are tightly shorn.

"Lupita’s hairstyle is the embodiment of true texture. I loved drawing her hair off to the side of her face but allowing her natural texture to fall quite effortlessly creating a natural and authentic feel while keeping it red-carpet glam," says Francois.

"I wanted to have fun with this look and emphasize her beauty so we decided to give her hair a little structure and height. My main goal was to make her Afro hair sexy and extra-textured, allowing the look to bring her hairstyle to a whole new level," says Francois.

Tight coils are parted in the center; if you look closely, you'll notice bangs and tapered layers throughout.
